Individual Counseling Services
Safe & Private Environment
Individual counseling refers to meetings between one client and one patient in a safe, private environment. These sessions average approximately 45 minutes to one hour and often take place once a week and sometimes twice a week determined on a case-by-case basis.
In individual counseling, patients are encouraged to provide as much information as possible pertaining to personal struggles, past events, feelings, and more. There is no shame in sharing, and there is no place for judgment in therapy. Instead, counselors use the information provided, from memories and feelings to current life challenges, to help patients resolve feelings, reconcile emotions and actions, and learn coping methods that can encourage healthier habits and behaviors.
The topics covered in individual counseling will vary greatly from one patient to the next, and no subject is off limits.
Family Counseling Expertise
Work Together
Unlike individual counseling, family counseling is a group session in which all or some members of a family unit meet with a counselor. Family counseling is most commonly used to work through issues occurring within the home, like fights between parents and children, divorce and relationship issues, and other interpersonal problems that arise between parents, spouses, children, and siblings.
Family counseling has many applications, especially for children in foster care or who have experienced abuse or neglect. In family counseling, all members of a close unit can work together to improve communication, strengthen bonds, and heal past wounds.
Group therapy opportunities
All Participants Welcome
Like family counseling, group therapy occurs in a group setting but generally between unacquainted individuals. Taking place in a neutral third-party location, group therapy deals with patients who share a mutual struggle, challenge, or experience. For example, grief counseling, addiction recovery, support groups, anger management for teens, social skills for children, or psycho-educational groups for Spanish-speaking parents.
At MPB Group Inc., we currently operate several open and continuous groups that meet once a week:
- Adults with Anxiety – Mondays at 6:15 p.m.
- Substance Abuse Recovery – Saturdays at 1:15 p.m.
- Anxiety Support Group
- Teen Issue Group
- Pre-Teen Group
- Parenting Group (Spanish) (Spanish speaking facilitator)
- Stages of Change (Substance use support group)
All participants are welcome, regardless of prior experience.
